Retaining Walls

St Heliers

Three tiers of retaining walls on a 1:2 slope.  This job required a lot of planning as there were some  issues to overcome:

  • Very narrow access, requiring using the neighbours land and building a temporary platform over their existing concrete driveway.
  • Steep slope, meaning chaining the 5t excavator to the 15t excavator to lower it down.
  • Very long (8m) and large diameter (550mm SED) poles that needed to be dragged from the roadside to a place where the 15 excavator could reach them.

Rural Driveway & Site Works

Clevedon

The beginnings of a house build on large and steep property overlooking Clevedon.  Our first earthworks stage included:

  • Rough cut for house site to allow us to form the driveway to the correct height
  • Cutting in driveway on a steep bank
  • Levelling existing farm track to provide better water runoff and connection into the formed driveway
  • Removal of unsuitable materials and 3 metre filling of new driveway area
  • Installation of service ducts prior to metal being spread

Geotechnical Test Pits

Onehunga

Excavation of multiple trial pits for a geotechnical investigation. The traditional method of doing bore logs couldn't proceed past about 800mm due to rock, so excavation was required.  We excavated to depths of between 3 - 4.5m.

Challenges included:

  • The site being on a busy road making excavator delivery difficult
  • Low power lines on entry to the site, though needing an excavator large enough to excavate to the required depths
  • Residential tenants present at the property who needed to be safety briefed
